Happy New Year from everyone at XR Southend!
2019 has seen more people than ever get involved with climate change activism. In the UK we brought business as usual to a halt in London in both April and October, and we have staged a variety of successful events locally too.
Unfortunately it’s not enough. As we have seen at the COP in Madrid this month, the world leaders have not grasped the severity of the situation and are not willing to take the decisive and necessary action to tackle the climate emergency.
As we move into the new year, Extinction Rebellion will have a bigger role to play than ever as we bring the power of people together in acts of mass civil disobedience and make the government listen.
Locally we have plans to up the ante and make our voices heard too. In January we will be sending out an engagement survey, and we want you to get more involved with the group in any capacity you can. There are many ways that you can contribute to XR Southend’s efforts other than just attending our events, and we will endeavour to make these roles more accessible to you all.
On Saturday 25th January we will be holding an airport related protest in Southend. Further details will be released nearer the time, but please put this in your diary for now and keep the date free.
We will also be holding another financial sector related protest on Saturday 29th February in Southend. Please keep this date free too. Further details will follow.
With other plans in the pipeline, such as a local Red Rebel Brigade, regular public meetings, NVDA training, and more, 2020 promises to be an exciting year for XR Southend.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in January!
